The flag of North Carolina consists of a blue union, containing a white star with the letter N on the left and C on the right of said star. The fly of the flag consists of two equally proportioned bars; the upper bar red, the lower bar white. Above the star in the center of the union is a gilt scroll in semi-circular form, containing in black letters the inscription "May 20th, 1775," and below the star there is similar scroll containing in black letters the inscription: "April 12th, 1776."
